Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil - City Info

Paraty

The small coastal village of Parati is a virtual museum within a tropical paradise. It is located 125 miles southwest of Rio and possesses one of the finest collections of classical 18th century Portuguese colonial buildings. In the late 1700’s, gold from the state of Minais Gerais was painstainkingly transported over mountains to Parati and then shipped to Portugal, until a better route was established north of Rio, leaving Parati as it is today. Parati has become a major international destination for the sophisticated tourist seeking sunshine and spectacular beaches (including snorkeling and scuba) all within a classical architectural setting.
